Dixie Fire Lawsuits

Ravaging Plumas, Butte, Lassen, and Tehama counties, the Dixie Fire has topped the list as the largest single blaze and second largest wildfire in California history. If you or someone you love has been impacted by the Dixie Fire, you may have the right to sue for damages, such as:

  • Lost property
  • Vehicle damage
  • Emotional distress
  • Inconvenience damages
  • Personal injury damages
  • Death of pets and/or livestock
  • Damage to your property, trees, landscaping
  • Lost earnings, including those due to business interruption

Kershaw Talley Barlow is well-known for our work in representing the victims of California wildfires. After 2018’s devastating Camp Fire, we took on Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E) on behalf of those affected. We proudly helped client after client recover their full compensation through aggressive legal advocacy. Now, we are taking on PG&E again, this time over the Dixie Fire.

How Did the Dixie Fire Start?

Cal Fire has concluded its investigation into the Dixie Fire, attributing its ignition to a live tree that came into contact with Pacific Gas and Electric Co. (PG&E) power lines west of Cresta Dam, located along the Feather River in Plumas County.

The Dixie Fire started July 13, 2021, which was also the same day that a PG&E employee was dispatched to investigate a report of a power outage at Cresta Dam off Highway 70. Per a report filed with the state, the employee found a tree leaning into a conductor with blown fuses—and a fire at the base of the tree. PG&E stated that its power equipment may have been responsible for starting not only the Dixie Fire but also the Fly Fire, a small fire that later merged with the Dixie Fire.

The blaze raged on for three long months and spread across almost 1 million acres, becoming the largest California wildfire of 2021. Cal Fire forwarded its investigative report on the cause of the Dixie Fire to the Butte County District Attorney's Office. The Butte County District Attorney and four other district attorneys are currently conducting a criminal investigation against PG&E for the Dixie Fire.

PG&E Must Be Held Accountable

The sad truth is that news of the "largest wildfire in state history" has become the norm in California. To date, PG&E has been found to be responsible for well over 1,500 fires in the past 6 years, including the Camp Fire and the Kincade Fire. PG&E is currently under indictment for the 2019 Kincade Fire in Sonoma County and the 2020 Zogg Fire in Shasta County. Something needs to be done. That's why we are fighting to hold PG&E accountable on behalf of those affected by the Dixie Fire.

"The Cal Fire Report is a critical development in holding PG&E accountable for the extensive damage and suffering it allegedly caused through the Dixie Fire, the second largest fire in state history, burning 1 million acres (bigger than the state of Rhode Island), destroying or damaging close to 1,500 structures, and upending the lives of tens of thousands of California residents," said legal representatives of Kershaw Talley Barlow.
