Toxic Baby Formula Lawyers in California
Lawsuits Against Enfamil & Similac
Did you feed Enfamil or Similac baby formula to your premature infant? Recent studies have shown that the formulations used in Enfamil and Similac baby formulas that are supposedly designed just for premature infants SHOULD NEVER BE FED to these babies. Despite this, the companies that manufacture these formulas continue to sell them throughout the United States. At KCT, we are investigating a potential class action that is designed to stop these companies from selling this product and marketing them in misleading ways.
As part of our investigation, we would like to hear from concerned parents who purchased these products to learn more about how it was marketed to them and what they were told by doctors about their safety.
If you fed your child Enfamil or Simliac baby formula specifically designed for premature infants, please call us today. (916) 520-6639 or contact us online right now.
Why are the Baby Formula Products Dangerous?
The potentially toxic baby formula products all use a cow milk-based formula, rather than human breast milk-based recipes. Research has shown that the bacteria in cow milk-based formula is not easily digested and neutralized in premature infants' immune system. After consuming these Enfamil or Similac baby formula products, possibly even just once, the infant might suffer a bacterial buildup in their intestinal tract, which can cause a life-threatening condition known as Necrotizing enterocolitis or “NEC.”.
What is NEC?
Necrotizing enterocolitis is an intestinal disease caused by bacterial inflammation and tissue damage. In moderate to severe cases, the inflammation and infection can worsen to the point that a hole forms in the intestine. Bodily fluids leak out of the hole and into the abdominal cavity, causing even more complications and harm.
NEC symptoms can include:
- Sudden disinterest in eating
- Yellow or green vomit
- Rapid weight loss
- Swollen or bloated stomach
- Labored breathing
- Unusual blood pressure
Most NEC cases happen within the first two to six weeks after premature birth, when the child’s immune system is at its weakest. If your newborn or premature child is experiencing any of these symptoms, then please seek urgent medical attention and let the medical practitioners know that your child consumed cow milk-based baby formula, so they can quickly test for signs of NEC. If untreated, NEC can be fatal, so please do not delay.
Will Enfamil & Similac Be Sued?
Abbott Laboratories and Mead Johnson & Company, LLC are the two companies that manufacture Enfamil and Similac cow milk-based baby formula products that are expressly marketed for premature infants. Despite the mountain of scientific evidence that these products should never be fed to premature infants, they continue selling them to the public. At Kershaw Talley Barlow, we are investigating a potential class action that will be designed to stop this business practice and prevent future injuries in premature babies. A very important part of this investigation is to hear from parents who fed their infants this potentially dangerous formula. We would like to know exactly how it was marketed to them and what doctors or healthcare providers told them about their safety. If you fed your child Enfamil or Similac for premature infants, please call us today.
